The Rising Sun Base Ball Club successfully hosted the 2nd Annual Weekend at the Winery vintage base ball event this past weekend. The Rising Sun club was joined by clubs from four states for the event: Delaware Diamond States, Gettysburg Generals, New York Mutuals, and Kennett Square Mohicans. The weather, while humid on Saturday and very warm on Sunday, was beautiful for base ball. The first game on Saturday featured Rising Sun and the Diamond States of Delaware. Both teams were able to make timely, well-struck hits and several quality plays in the field. The game ended as a defeat for the Rising Sun Club, falling to the Diamond States 15-12. The second game featured the New York Mutuals (along with Banker and Dirt from RS) and the Gettysburg Generals (and Tex from RS). The Mutuals were able to hold the Generals in check, winning 12-4. The third game featured Rising Sun and Gettysburg. Rising Sun's bats came alive during this game and the club came away with a 18-5 victory. The final game of the day featured the New York Mutuals (with Dirt and Cheddar from RS) and the Delaware Diamond States. The Mutuals and their borrowed friends were able to make solid plays on defense as their bats erupted for a 12-6 win over the Delaware club. Ballists and their families from each of the clubs enjoyed a Maryland crab feast at Banker's residence on Saturday evening. Sunday's first match featured the Rising Sun Club and their good friends, the New York Mutuals. Timely hitting and defensive plays contributed to a 21-10 victory. The Mutuals then defeated the Gettysburg Generals 11-10 by coming from behind in the bottom of the 9th, only to score the winning tally in the bottom of the 10th. With a very solid defensive showing, the Mohican Base Ball Club of Kennett Square defeated the Gettysburg Generals 15-0 in the third game of the day. The final game of the weekend was a very close match between the Mohicans and the host club. Kennett led most of the game, but Rising Sun was able tie the score in the 8th inning. Unfortunately, the Mohicans responded with 4 tallies in the 9th. Rising Sun was able to scrape by one more tally in the bottom of the 9th, but ultimately succumbed to the Kennett team 11-8.
